Picnic Cake

Mix and cool:
1 C cut dates or raisins
1 1/2 C hot water

Cream:
3/4 C shortening
1 C sugar
2 eggs

Sift:
2 C flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix together and put in 9X12 pan.

Topping: Put on top of cake batter.
3/4  C brown sugar
1 C chocolate chips
1/2 C chopped walnuts

Bake at 350 degrees 40 minutes.
